It all starts with the TV....Geoffrey Novak's constant companion when he was a wee little one. He watched many different things, but then one day....Hey hey we're the Monkees! He was mesmerized, fascinated and wanted nothing more from life at that point than to be Peter Tork. At the tender age of eight, he started down that path that is all consuming, learning his first chords on an old '42 Gretsch acoustic. He and a friend put on several shows for everyone in the neighborhood.
At eleven, he sat down behind a friends drum set and found he actually could play the darn things. By thirteen he was playing in a band, and they got their first gig. They weren't too good, but the kids around their age really liked them. Geoffrey continued to join bands throughout high school.
Then came his first real break. He auditioned for a band called Eclipse. He was all of seventeen, but he really liked their songs, and worked very hard getting them right. It turned out he was the 123rd person to audition, and the only one who bothered to actually learn the songs given, and not try and tune through 62 effects boxes. He was in an 'A' band! The experience was wonderful, but like all good things it ended. Out of the ashes of Eclipse rose Cathedral, with a wonderful female fronting. He continued to play the 'A' circuit in Denver.
Geoffrey decided he had better further his education, so I went to Metropolitan State College and got a two year certificate in audio engineering. He apprenticed at Applewood studios in Golden, and later worked at the Caribou studios in Nederland.
In 1985, he lost his fiancée and left music for a time. He later played for about a year with a band called New Zealand, playing female oriented 70's and 80's music. He ran sound for several Denver area bands, including Airwave and heartbreak Radio. He again ventured away until the early 90's, when he joined a band called Matrix, playing hard rock. He began teaching beginning through intermediate guitar. In 2002, he hooked up with a band called Dante Spumonte. The band played some good originals and some fun covers.
Geoffrey met JP and Adele in the summer of 2003 and decided to join DECADES. He is currently playing with DECADES, which debuted in the summer of 2003.
